Back to Estonia...

I've got a relatively big prayer request... today in my inbox came a note from GlobalX (the Buckhead Church missions department) saying that I had been selected for a trip this year :-). Awesome stuff.

Knowing the deadlines for applying for the trips and the two trips that I applied for, here comes the prayer request.

I am now expecting to get a call from the leader of the Estonia English Camp trip in July... which I was praying about and considering and now am SERIOUSLY praying about as I know that I've been selected for this team. The other trip that I applied for was the College Ministry Launch trip that I went on last year in Estonia in September... which is/was my first choice. Does God have other plans for me? I've done the college launch thing for two years in a row now, counting Croatia in 2006... could God want to stretch me in doing something new? I love Risttee Church and the ministry that they are building there... God is doing some great things through them and I want to continue to be a part of what they're doing. Could it be that He is steering me to be involved in a different capacity... or to trust Him for the "Bear Week" team?

It'll be a cool couple of weeks of prayer, seeking wise counsel, and dreaming :-). God is up to something huge...

Not quite yet. The leader is being a little slow. The trip that I think this is about is not till July, though.

Back from Labor Day Retreat, managing to keep from being sunburned and bowled over by Hurricane Gustav, I am enjoying a quiet evening relaxing and mulling over some of the happenings and ways that God had been speaking to me over the weekend.  This weekend has been great in that regard... God has used Brennan Manning (our speaker, author of The Ragamuffin Gospel) to really speak into my life and has obviously left me with a lot to noodle over.   I'll share with you one of those things... something that I thought was really interesting. In one of his talks, Brennan turned around and talked about Jesus's famous parable of the prodigal son as if when He was talking about the character of the prodigal, think about it as if Jesus was characterizing himself as the "prodigal."  This is, in my mind, very scandalous... considering that Jesus IS the perfect Son of God and I'm not really thinking at all that the parable's character was necessarily intended to be Jesus.....

The B(C)S Strikes Again

I'm laughing, again.  Somehow, some big conference elites somewhere are trying to sell college football fans that the BCS (Bowl Championship Series) is a flawless way to determine who should play for a national college football championship.  Every year, the "system" flirts with controversy, and manages to bring up some really good points over the years.   One of the classic arguments that they like to bring up is... "Every game counts" Hmmmmm .... what about Texas 45, Oklahoma 35?   In the BCS standings now, guess who's #2?   OU ... who's #3?  t.u.  ....Every game counts, eh?   Apparently , "what have you done for me lately" and a bunch of computers spitting stats count a lot more now than the results on the field.... too funny.   In a twist of fate, the Big XII South, arguably the best division in college football, has a three way tie for first place with three teams at 7-1 (11-1 overall) and all ranked in the top 7 in the BCS standings.  ...

What if this was true for Christ-followers?

Anyone who knows me, or pays attention to my goings on, knows that this weekend was my second half marathon weekend.  Yes, I did the half insanity again, beat my first half marathon time by 16 minutes (easy to do if you had the foot issues I had last year :) ), and had an absolutely fantastic weekend touring Savannah, St. Simons Island, and lots of traffic jams.  I really felt truly blessed this weekend (maybe not for the traffic jams, but for everything else :) ). Thinking through the weekend, a couple of deja vu conversations got me thinking.  The first one was at the McDonald's in Dublin, GA.  I was ordering a snack wrap and a coffee drink, and this woman behind me in line strikes up a conversation like this...  "Are you running the full or the half?" This person happened to be traveling to her home in Savannah and knew about the race (it was a pretty big deal for Savannah), and her husband had just completed the Marine Corps Marathon the week before and ...
