Waffle House Mojo!

Image
Did you know that there is now a Waffle House kiosk in Turner Field? That was 13 games ago. They Braves haven't lost since!  They are 13-0 with a Waffle House in the building. Which only means one thing... The Waffle House is HOT.  Given that this is the case, here's a top 10 list of other uses of good WH mojo. 1.) Put one in Kyle Field.  Like... NOW! 2.) Take your next first date to Waffle House.  You think I'm crazy, but she could be the one! 3.) Before you get your PowerBall tickets, make sure you get it smothered, covered, and topped with some love. 4.) Who's to argue with some of Bert's Chili on your suit before that big interview? 5.) Carb loading before a marathon!!  Waffle... Hash Browns... PR baby. 6.)  Prospect meeting before the big contract negotiation (now, to be realistic, I've had pre-sales call strategy meetings at truck stop diners before, so this isn't terribly far fetched) 7.)  Did they announce layoffs at you...

The Pedestrian SEC Fan's Guide to Aggieland

In five short days, the Fighting Texas Aggies will be starting our first season playing in the SEC.  I believe that unless you talk to an Aggie not living in reality, that our first season in the league will be a little humbling, but I'm confident that we'll earn your respect, both on the football field and off of it.  9 days after our initial game, our first guest comes in... and given that 14 days is not a lot of time to prepare yourself to enter our promised land, I thought I'd give you a little guide into Aggieland so that you know us as we are getting to know you.  Also, these are some things you can keep in mind so that you enjoy (or at least not embarrass yourself :-) ) when you come to College Station. If you ask us about our mascots and think it's weird that we call ourselves Aggies, have yells that refer to us as "Farmers" and "Army," and also have the dog (Reveille's her name)... you may think that's weird... but remember that y...

The looming deadline approaches

I have been watching the news with baited breath... as negotiations occur in dark rooms in which the fate of many will be decided... and the clock is ticking to an eventual doomsday deadline. Yes, my friends. I'm talking about the July 31st baseball trade deadline. I am, sort of, watching the market for who may be traded to my current hometown team, who has been somewhat crippled when Brian McCann went on the DL just recently.  With the loss of his bat, the Braves really need to pick up some offense, especially against left handed pitching (where they were recently quoted as batting a measly .227 as of about a week ago). But more so, I'm nervous and watching the biggest seller on the market.  After all, I am from  Houston and I am a Houston Astros fan. And yes, I know.... They really stink.  Actually, that may be too kind. That's why we are the biggest seller now, because we own the most marketable player that is being talked about as a trade target. ...

A plausible football championship playoff format

As the college football season finishes off, and Cam Newton wills Auburn back to life once again and Boise State ruins the hopes of all of the "non-AQ" fans that want a party crasher to the BCS championship game. As long as Auburn and Oregon keep winning, there should be no beloved controversy to bring debate back to killing the BCS, but if the Beavers or the Gamecocks get lucky next weekend, let chaos ensue: Because your options are: - TCU, they are undefeated BUT they played a schedule of cupcakes all season, including a 5-5 Oregon State team. - Wisconsin, Ohio State, and Michigan State - Three one-loss Big Ten teams in the top 10 of the BCS standings.  This may be the best "top three" of any conference in the nation, and none are, currently, ranked in the top 6 in the country. - LSU, who won't even win it's division of it's conference, but only has one loss, to Auburn - Oklahoma State, a one-loss team assuming they beat OU in Bedlam and Nebra...

Texas Aggie Football - Why I'm Optimistic

After watching my beloved Aggies get shellacked by a subpar 2009 Georgia Bulldog football team sans D.C. in a toilet bowl, you would you think that I'd be ready to jump off a ledge.  Well, perhaps then I was pretty upset, but "jump off a ledge upset?"  Not so much. My friend in Austin whom I was watching the game with was a little more so... the only mistake I made was allowing him to use my TexAgs account to berate our coaching staff and risk my account being tagged as a troll and getting banned for life.  Fortunately, the latter didn't happen.  Can't say so much for the former.  But that's okay, when you love your friends you let them sometimes act out.  Don't you? ;-) After seeing the state of Aggie football over the last month since that poorly executed football game in Shreveport, I have a lot of reasons for optimism and yes, faith in Coach Sherman.  We'll see if that plays out but looking at what's going on behind the scenes I think we...

Lane Kiffin

Did I call it or did I call it?  In my October 2009 blog about Lane Kiffin at Tennessee, I called out this guy as "unworthy."  http://cdubsmusings.blogspot.com/2009/10/worthy-and-unworthy.html Yesterday, Kiffin solidified that position.  One year, and a 7-6 (4-4 SEC) record, and Lane Kiffin and his daddy are bolting from Rocky Top after getting beaten like a stepchild by the Florida Gators, whom Lane Kiffin won't ever be getting to beat the Hell outta because he's LEAVING.  For... USC.  Nevermind that Pete Carroll is bolting that program now that he has to compete with Rick Neiuhesel for recruits and the coaching talent pool in the Pac 10 has greatly improved.  I wonder if Southern Cal is going to want him back after tanking another NFL stint (did you see what he didn't do with the talent that Bill Belicheck had won 3 Super Bowls with in New England?).  Pete Carroll... definitely unworthy.  You should have stayed in school.  And L...

Worthy and Unworthy

I've been a little deep lately in my blog, and I feel like I need a little balance here.  So today, I start up a series of blogs entited "Worthy and Unworthy" - in which I rate things as "worthy" or "unworthy" (based on nothing other than my opinion, of course).  Feel free to disagree with me if you wish... I probably won't get offended :-) So let's get this started: Ketchups  This is a topic that my friend Josh Adams has brought to some attention, with a discussion on his Facebook page about the fact that he will actually bring Heinz ketchup into a place if they serve something else.  While I'm a huge fan of Heinz, I do think there are other worthy ketchups. Worthy! Heinz - The original and still the best.   McDonalds - I don't know what it is, but their ketchup and fries form a powerful duo. Whataburger - This ketchup that Whataburger own-brands is some really amazing stuff.  It's got a kick that you don't see in...

Compromise (it's not worth it!)

Sad for me to say this... but this Friday was one of the happier times I have had as a Indiana University alum. The drama surrounding our basketball program may not have come to an end... far from it... but the source of that drama has officially left the University. And for that matter (I hope), from coaching college basketball for good. http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/columns/story?columnist=forde_pat&id=3259751& sportCat = ncb The person I'm referring to is Kelvin Sampson, the now former IU basketball coach . Apparently from reading about what is going on with the program, the drama is FAR from over. Especially if DJ White is going to continue to behave disruptively, blowing off Dan Dakich's (the interim coach) workouts out of protest. Not good. Looking back 2 years ago at Kelvin's being hired at I.U., I immediately had a bad feeling about the whole thing. Kelvin Sampson is a very talented basketball coach that could put I.U. back in the national spotligh...
