Six Degrees and Review of Bangkok Thyme Thai & Sushi

Last night, I and about 10 other friends went out to our monthly "Six Degrees" dinner club outing. This time, I picked out a place near my 'hood that I've been wanting to try for a while but hadn't gotten around to it. The restaurant we went out to was Bangkok Thyme. Bangkok Thyme is a combination Thai and Sushi restaurant in Sandy Springs (the "North Buckhead" area of Sandy Springs) and has a really good atmosphere, attentive waiters, and high quality food. It was pretty reasonable too. I remember as we were talking and waiting on our dinners to come out that I would get really envious of the other dishes being brought out (everything looked great!). I got the chef's special fried rice, which I asked to make spicy. I highly recommend it, even if you are like one of our guests that is more of a "meat and potatoes" kind of guy. There is something for everyone there. These dinner clubs are always fun and there's usually a sligh

I'm going to have to see this to believe it.

Guess what's supposed to happen today in Austin, New York, and D.C.? A group of left wing protesters are going to go out and picket... Whole Foods Market. Huh? Whole Foods Market? The Whole Foods Market that... Buys fair trade goods from poor countries? Sources locally produced organic produce Provides even it's part time store employees (almost 50,000 in total) with health care? Spearheaded the environmentally conscious business movement? Gives back to the communities that it does business in? Yes. That Whole Foods Market. Why? Well, in case you didn't know, the CEO of Whole Foods (John Mackey ) wrote an op-ed in the Wall Street Journal last week talking about his disagreement with the Health Care Reform legislation being considered in the House and Senate and promoted an 8-point free-market based reform program to fix health care. It was extremely well written, well-thought out, and managed to (upset) a lot of liberals who can't see past "single pa

An email I received from a friend today

I got this email from a friend (who will remain nameless to protect his identity) about his experience at the Healthcare Town Hall in Dekalb yesterday. It's worth a read. Be informed (meaning, don't just listen to the Obama propaganda -- or anyone else's propaganda for that matter) and speak your mind. This is not a trivial bill we're talking about... ----------------------------------------- I want to write briefly to give my reaction to tonight's healthcare town hall with Congressman Hank Johnson . I went to the town hall expecting a large crowd that would be predominantly supportive of government sponsored healthcare, but I was hoping for an organized and vocal minority that I could support. I was also hoping against the odds that I could actually get a chance to ask a question. The town hall was far worse than I expected. Even though I arrived way before the meeting actually began, the line of people waiting to get into the meeting was (at my best estimate)

Why is it so fun to reference a water-restriction device?

I went out with a group of friends (mostly new) to raft the Middle Ocoee yesterday, and had a really great time. Yesterday's weather was really perfect for whitewater. It's always good to get out of town and out on the water. After our rafting expedition, we opted to go out to a local restaurant that was very near one of the Ocoee dams (the Ocoee river is a restricted flow river, so the water levels are a little more predictable than it would be for a 100% naturally fed. The restaurant's name: The Ocoee Dam Deli & Diner. Or to shorten it, we just called it the Dam Deli. This caused laughter. Why? I'll let your juvenile imagination take you where it's intended to go :-). Yes, a group of late 20's/early 30's Christian singles have just returned for a trip to 8 th grade. Including me. Why is it so fun? There's nothing really scandalous about saying dam. It's a water restriction device. It's used to control flooding in the regio
