Country Music Enigma

Image
I get into seasons where I listen to a lot of Country music, and I'm currently in one.  I've listened to the Bull on the way to work a lot.  Some of the songs are just good for the soul, and some are great for a laugh. I think it's interesting that you could be listening to a song like this, in which you heart smiles (I can be a sucker for romantic songs) and I think "oh wow - this would be a great first dance at my wedding.  My current favorite is this one... the lyrics are awesome (especially the ending) And then the very next song. Yes, the very next song. Finishes its chorus with these words... Chew tobacco Chew tobacco Chew tobacco... SPIT! Thank you Blake Shelton. And now I can't get that song out of my head for the rest of your day. Anyone else feel this confused? Okay - I may secretly like that Blake Shelton song... it is really really redneck, though ;-) I just wonder why Country stations always play a song like this behind an...

Zac Brown Concert tonight

I'm pretty stoked about this weekend.  Starting tonight, I'm heading to meet some friends for the Zac Brown Band concert at Verizon.  It should be a great show. My favorite song of theirs, of course, is "Chicken Fried."  However, a week ago I got on the scale, saw something I didn't like (a number too big), and decided to make some changes till I get back to my "ideal weight."  Which means, no fried food and definitely no beer (I hate beer anyways but I'm cutting all "mature" drinks out till I'm back on track... it's good for me :) ).  So I figure I'd have to sing this instead. I'd like me some Chicken Fried Cold beer on a Friday night But this pair of jeans don't fit just right... So I'm giving it all...all...yall, up.

With Everything

Lyrics by Hillsong United...  Open our hearts, To see the things That make Your heart cry, To be the church The You would desire. Light to be seen. Break down our pride, And all the walls We've built up inside, Our earthly crowns And all our desires, We lay at Your feet. So let hope rise, And darkness tremble In Your holy light, And every eye will see Jesus, our God, Great and mighty to be praised. God of all days, Glorious in all of Your ways. Your majesty, the wonder and grace, In the light of Your name. With everything, With everything, We will shout for your glory. With everything, With everything, We will shout forth your praise. Our hearts will cry Be glorified, Be lifted high, Above all names. For You our King, With everything, We will shout forth your praise.

We're not alone

Had to share the song that we finished up at Buckhead Church on Sunday... good song & great message. Lyrics: Why are you striving these days Why are you trying to earn grace Why are you crying Let me lift up your face Just don't turn away Why are you looking for love Why are you still searching as if I'm not enough To where will you go child Tell me where will you run To where will you run And I'll be by your side Wherever you fall In the dead of night Whenever you call And please don't fight These hands that are holding you My hands are holding you Look at these hands and my side They swallowed the grave on that night When I drank the world's sin So I could carry you in And give you life I want to give you life ---------------- Cause I, I love you I want you to know That I, I love you I'll never let you go And I'll be by your side Wherever you fall In the dead of night Whenever you call And please don't fi...

To know your name

The precious blood of Jesus Christ redeems Forgiven I'm alive restored set free Your majesty resides inside of me Forever I believe Forever I believe Arrested by Your truth and righteousness Your grace has overwhelmed my brokenness Convicted by Your spirit led by Your word Your love will never fail Your love will never fail [c] I know You gave The word Your only Son for us To know Your name To  live  within the Saviour's love He took my place Knowing He'd be crucified And You loved You loved a people undeserving

He is the everlasting God

Our God, You reign forever Our hope, our Strong Deliverer You are the everlasting God The everlasting God You do not faint You won't grow weary You're the defender of the weak You comfort those in need You lift us up on wings like eagles

What's the deal with this song?

In my newly found rash of morning workouts, I went to spin this morning over at the Perimeter LA Fitness.  I really enjoyed the class and the music mix that the instructor had going on.  It was a lot of classic rock songs that I was really jamming out to (including that "Don't Stop Thinking About Tomorrow" song that always reminds me of Bill Clinton... I even liked that one ;-) ).  As we get to the end of the classic-rock inspired sweat fest, we finish hard with.... Kelly Clarkson - you know the song.  Yes.  "Since You Were Gone."  All of the sudden, I found the estrogen in the room rise.  Don't get me wrong it's a good workout song... most of these "angry chick songs" seem to be.  I couldn't escape it... I was on a stationary bike... I couldn't peddle faster to get away.  I also noticed a couple my fellow dudes in the other side of the room flashing the "I can't believe this..." look when the song started playing.  ...

While I'm Waiting

In the past three weeks at Buckhead Church, we have been going through a series on waiting entitled "The Waiting Room." I think everyone, including me, that is waiting on God can relate. One thing that was really humorous were the videos at the beginning of the talks each week were of this guy waiting in the doctors' office and getting frustrated. This is sometimes how it feels to be in a season of waiting... I was reading this morning in Jeremiah 29, and in that chapter is a letter that Jeremiah wrote to another people stuck in a season of waiting. However, it's interesting to read about what God wanted His people to do when in the waiting season of exile in Babylon. He wanted them to build homes, he wanted them to marry and raise families, he wanted them to engage and be lights to the Babylonian culture. This wasn't a boring, dry, waiting room with stale newspapers that God was calling them to but a mysterious adventure outside of their comfort zones. N...

If Comcast Cared

(parody of Nickelback song) For those that are wondering (because I've complained about this a lot over the past 3 months that it's been flaky -as it is now- or just plain DOWN for hours on end - which it is at this very moment- ), I checked with AT&T about DSL about a month or so back... and they can't offer DSL in my area till 1/1/08. I can't wait! :-). This is not quite as funny for me now (even though I tried to be and laughed a little as I was dreaming it up with my Internet down), but it will be much more so soon.. haha :) "If Comcast Cared" (Based on "If Everyone Cared" by Nickelback) From my Starbucks seat, I watch passers-by Checking the news that's passed on by I never dreamed that I'd be online But here I am, e-mails are mine Singing Amen I, I'm online Singing Amen I, I'm online [Chorus:] If Comcast cared, if they really tried To fix my home Internet every time that it died If they would just respond and...
