Why is it so fun to reference a water-restriction device?
I went out with a group of friends (mostly new) to raft the Middle Ocoee yesterday, and had a really great time. Yesterday's weather was really perfect for whitewater. It's always good to get out of town and out on the water.
After our rafting expedition, we opted to go out to a local restaurant that was very near one of the Ocoee dams (the Ocoee river is a restricted flow river, so the water levels are a little more predictable than it would be for a 100% naturally fed. The restaurant's name:
The Ocoee Dam Deli & Diner.
Or to shorten it, we just called it the Dam Deli.
This caused laughter. Why? I'll let your juvenile imagination take you where it's intended to go :-). Yes, a group of late 20's/early 30's Christian singles have just returned for a trip to 8th grade. Including me.
Why is it so fun? There's nothing really scandalous about saying dam. It's a water restriction device. It's used to control flooding in the region and generate electricity. Still, it's fun and somewhat scandalous to say that we're doing to the Dam Deli. Even funnier was ordering, since all of the menu items are named after famous dams around the country. Juvenile imagination, take over now. Come on, it's a theme... It's about a mile from the dam, so okay. Again, I'll let mine and your 8th grade mind take you where it probably should (or should not ;-) ) go.
Laughter aside, the food at the Ocoee Dam Deli & Diner was really good. I highly recommend the Philly wrap I had and the fried pickles with homemade ranch. I also heard the Fried Green Tomatoes were a great selection. This is a place near most of the rafting outfits and had a lot of a diner/dive type of look to it. In fact, I wouldn't be too surprised to see Guy showcase this place on the Food Network's Diners, Drive In's, and Dives show. It's definitely worthy. Guy, I'm waiting to hear when you'll be filming. I give this place two thumbs up.
And, for being near the Ocoee Dam. Good! Maybe you could say the food was.... dam good.
*he he he* *chuckle*
Yes. There is an 8th grader in all of us :-)
