Who is this Barak Obama guy?

I'm watching Hannity and Colmes right now, and they are recapping the Pennsylvania Democratic presidential debate from last night. And as has been an occurrence that has happened quite a bit lately in this campaign, another shocking revelation about Saint Barak has come out.

Like his association with Jeremiah Wright, this one was shocking and character-revealing... except this one is a little more disturbing!!! A question was asked about his association with Bill Ayers, a 60's radical who admitted to bombing the Pentagon, NYC police department, and some other government buildings; and very soon after 9/11 unrepentantly said that he thinks that they didn't do enough (bombings, that is). Apparently, it is documentable that Barak and him were "on friendly relations" - meaning that B.O. and B.A. have served on boards together, collaborated on speeches together, etc. I don't know about you, but would you associate with a man like this, as a citizen, much less a candidate for President of the United States???? Never mind all of the rantings of the pastor that "led him to Jesus Christ."

Then, in a speech to some supporters in San Francisco, B.O. stated that people in middle America cling to God and their guns because they are "bitter." What? I was watching the reaction from folks in Pennsylvania that were not very kind to our friend the rock star Mr. Obama.

Hmmmm...  what else is going to come out now?  

Seems that there are two Barak Obamas out there (Newt Gingrich raised this point on the H&C show and it has legs)... there is the one that is "Rock Star Obama" giving the rah-rah speeches to crowds showing "Yes, We Can!" and "Change!  Change!  Change!"... this is the Obama that the media has been covering and salivating over.  

Then, there is this "other" Obama that we keep finding out about... that the media isn't asking too many questions about and not covering too much... but he keeps peeking out.  This is the Obama that married this woman that is making bitter comments about America, the Obama that went to this Jeremiah Wright's church for 20 years and gave $27,000 to it last year (from the tax return), and the Obama that associates with this (dare I say it) terrorist Ayers and gives speeches with him.  

So... who are you Barak Obama?  Really?  

King Solomon said something about the company you keep revealing your character.  He wrote it over 2500 years ago and it hasn't been proven false yet.  

Do you want to bet against those odds with Barak Obama (B.O.) and bet that the rock star image that we're being fed in the media is actually the REAL Obama?  

Personally, I wouldn't take that bet.  I'm going with the odds.

I'm laughing, again.  Somehow, some big conference elites somewhere are trying to sell college football fans that the BCS (Bowl Championship Series) is a flawless way to determine who should play for a national college football championship.  Every year, the "system" flirts with controversy, and manages to bring up some really good points over the years.   One of the classic arguments that they like to bring up is... "Every game counts" Hmmmmm .... what about Texas 45, Oklahoma 35?   In the BCS standings now, guess who's #2?   OU ... who's #3?  t.u.  ....Every game counts, eh?   Apparently , "what have you done for me lately" and a bunch of computers spitting stats count a lot more now than the results on the field.... too funny.   In a twist of fate, the Big XII South, arguably the best division in college football, has a three way tie for first place with three teams at 7-1 (11-1 overall) and all ranked in the top 7 in the BCS standings.

A twist on a familiar parable.

Back from Labor Day Retreat, managing to keep from being sunburned and bowled over by Hurricane Gustav, I am enjoying a quiet evening relaxing and mulling over some of the happenings and ways that God had been speaking to me over the weekend.  This weekend has been great in that regard... God has used Brennan Manning (our speaker, author of The Ragamuffin Gospel) to really speak into my life and has obviously left me with a lot to noodle over.   I'll share with you one of those things... something that I thought was really interesting. In one of his talks, Brennan turned around and talked about Jesus's famous parable of the prodigal son as if when He was talking about the character of the prodigal, think about it as if Jesus was characterizing himself as the "prodigal."  This is, in my mind, very scandalous... considering that Jesus IS the perfect Son of God and I'm not really thinking at all that the parable's character was necessarily intended to be Jesus..
