There IS somebody

I hinted earlier (by a not-so-random repost) that I was doing some noodling from listening to the new Nickelback single quite a bit.  This noodling hasn't subsided... good for you reading my blog (you didn't think you'd want to miss another C-Dub N-back song rewrite would you?)

This new single... in a way strikes a chord with us singles... because the theme of "Gotta Be Somebody" is on "finding the one" - that we don't want to be the one left alone, incomplete, and on the outside looking in.  I think many of us have this fear... I can't say that I'm immune.  We have dreams of finding the one we want to spend the rest of our lives with, and it does play out like the song says "just like a scene, up on the silver screen."  If we find it, then it consumes us... if we don't find it, we find ourselves feeling lost.  

So what happens if we never "find the one?"  Is all lost?  

Several years ago, I was led to discover that in my own quest, I wasn't ultimately looking for romantic fulfillment, but instead of a solid love that would give my life purpose.  Is this something that can come from a human lover?  Our experience, and reality, tells us that we are all flawed and cannot possibly be the "source" for another person... nor could another flawed human being be the "source" for us.  What I was looking for was not a life partner, but a "source."  This is, listening to the heart of the song and the heart that embraces the song, what the songwriter is seeking as well.  A "source."  

The good news is... which I am celebrating this week and as the breath of my life... is that I have found the source.  My search was not found in a wife (even though I want to be married one way), but was found in something better.  It was found in my Savior, the lover of my soul, the One who has fulfilled me and has promised Life and never to abandon me.  My search was for... and found... a loving God in Jesus who embraces me, loves me as I am, and gives my life meaning and purpose because it is rooted in a much greater story and reality than exists in my finite little world.  

So... perhaps I should again adjust the song to the reality of True Love.  As I said about "If Everyone Cared" two years ago, the lyrics are really close to hope, as our longings that we seek to fulfill in an attractive lesser thing that Christ are close to hope, but is that what we really want.  Seriously, I want hope that will last... love that will last... and life that will last.
